I am about to purchase a tractor with a loader and hoe. I am used to mowing the lawn with a Yamaha ATV with the PTO mower in the back. I don't have any trouble with looking back or swinging around obstacles. The only problem is running over the grass with 4 tires before trying to cut it. Therefore, the mmm is better in the respect that you only run over the grass with 2 tires. I have heard however, that it is a pain to install/remove the mmm. Any feedback or opinions on which mower to get before I make my choice? Thanks.

I sold my mid-mount and got a rear finish mower. The mid mount was a pain in the neck to deal with, the rear deck works great. As discussed in a different thread, it seams the rear mower does not load the engine the way the mid mower did. There is still some debate as to wether that is true.
I like the rear deck. Not sorry at all I switched. ....

I have a BX2230 with the 54" MMM. Comes off and on very easily, 10 min max.
My oppinions:
1.) Much easier to control around edges and borders than a rear mower
2.) Follows ground contours better
3.) Allowed me to add a bagger
4.) Can use rear drawbar with deck mounted (rake/trailer)
5.) Takes up less parking space

Depends on what model you get. Some tractors you can leave the laoder and hoe one while you cut the grass with a MMM. Other wise you would have to take the hoe off each time you need to cut the grass. ....

My deck and loader were compatible. Didn't matter. Mowing the lawn with the FEL on didn't work. The weight of the FEL on the front axle caused too much lawn damage while turning. Counterweight was fine, but just added more weight when what I really wanted was to be able to tip-toe around on the lawn. The lightest set-up was the rear mount mower. ....

The MMM is a bit of work getting it leveled out and properly adjusted to cut; but once that is done, it is not hard to remove or install at least on my 4410. (I have the John Deere 72" MMM) I use it with the 430 FEL installed and have no interference issues. The RFM is easier to install and remove but is not as adept at cutting up close and around obstacles like the MMM can. I prefer the MMM. The MMM pto demands more power from the engine since it turns at 2100 rpm vs. 540 for the rear pto. The RFM gearbox makes up the loss in blade tip speed. ....

I have used both and I really like the mmm on my B6200. It's much more maneuverable, the overall machine length is shorter, and deck removal is not all that bad. I take the deck off in winters for added clearance and use my back blade for snow. Regarding quality of cut, I have absolutely no problem getting the deck level-when I'm done mowing the finished jod looks great! Before I go, Chief mentioned something about blade tip speed on a rear mower. I believe the tip speed in RPM is the same as shaft speed. Whats different is the angular velocity (distance per unit time). However, a slow blade is still a slow blade, meaning ground speed of tractor is important.
